Fire Fighting

Yesterday was a very tiring day for me but a very fruitful one.No, I didn't hit a jackpot but some knowledge that will be helpful to me at anytime if I come across.

Many of you would probably skip fire drill & training whenever it is being conducted in a company or a building management.

There's a team of fire fighting squad in the company, they are very knowledgeable. He taught us a few things,like as follows:-

1) 3F - Fight, Free & Freeze
2) How to escape?
3) How to use extingusher and what are thr types that suitable to use.

It was very informative not only to be used in the office but also at home. For example:-

1) Whenever there is fire , it is alway very dark.And one is unable to see due to smoke and there won;t be any electricity. Walk by the wall, with one hand feeling the wall.DO NOT USE yr palm to feel it cos we tend to grab things if we use palm.USe the other side.If we feel hot, that means something is burning behind the wall or nearerer to the wall, therefore we could make a U Turn.The reason we get close to wall cos we weill be able to find exit/door. Should we walk around, we will probably at lost.

2) Should the smoke fill up the entire space, there's always a room for oxygen, therefore one should crawl (commando crawl)to get out.If u understand science, hot air goes up and oxygen is heavier too.So keep yourself down will help you to get some oxygen.

3) One should keep a set of keys to yr main door in the house that everyone is aware.Fix a box key next to your main entrance. So in case of fire, you know where the key is to your exit door.

4) Keep all important documents like passport, birthcert, marriage cert, bank passbook etc in a hand carry bag with some cash inside and ensure everyone is aware of it, and when there 's a fire anyone can just grab & go. Keeping in a box may be messy cos you will probably can't hold it like bag.

5) Whenever you enter a building, find out where is the fire exit door, fire extinguisher, fire hose reel and the alarm

6) If u hear a continuous ring of the alarm, it is probably on your floor.But if the alarm has an interval ring, the fire is somewhere else.

7) Should there be a fire, one should quickly shut/switch off electrical appliances & remove the plug cos fire is able to travel via the electrical wiring.

8) There are a few tpes of fire extinguisher however, those commonly used are the blue color & black color . The balck color consist of carbon dioxide therefore is suitable for electrical appliances and you just need to repair it but if you use the blue color, consist of powder, u will not be able to repair your appliances.But blue color fire extinguisher will fuse the fire faster at any time. Remember when u use it, do not use it against the wind. And should also remember to pull out the pin otherwise there will not be anything coming out from the nozzle.

By the way, our emergency number for Malaysia is 999 (one number for all). Also do get down the numbers of your nearest police station, Bomba and hospitals. Remember, fire takes only minutes to destroy a house.So, one should know how to save yourself.
